After a twenty-year career in international public health that took her to countries across Southeast Asia and Africa and connected her to countless people, Makiko found her way to Yakushima. It was here that she set out on the second phase of her life: working toward people’s health, their sense of fulfillment, and even planetary health by reconnecting people with nature. She was the first Japanese citizen certified as a Forest Therapy Guide by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides & Programs (ANFT), and has since also been certified as a trainer for aspiring guides across the globe.Licenses & certifications:Tomohiko acts as medical support for the forest therapy & wellness programs offered by KaleidoFor-est. Previously a professor at Tokyo Women’s Medical University, he is currently the head of Onoaida Clinic on Yakushima, as well as a Medical and Research Advisor for ANFT. After working as a surgeon in Malawi for 3 years, he acted as an advisor for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in over 30 African countries.
